Discovering the Library's Art Collection Part l - The Italian Renaissance: Michelangelo and Friends
Event box
Michelangelo's sculptures Moses and Lorenzo de'Medici belong to the library in replicas. Join Amy Golahny for the first in this two part series on the library's permanent collection of art. The discussion will place these pieces in their original context, and demonstrate Michelangelo's powerful influence on younger sculptors in Florence such as Giambologna and his Mercury.
Be sure to register for Part II: Discovering the Library’s Art Collection: Souvenirs of Italy, which will take place on Tuesday, May 17 at 7pm.
Amy Golahny, PhD Columbia University, is Richmond Professor Emerita of Lycoming College, Williamsport PA. She has lectured internationally, authored and edited books and articles on Rembrandt and other topics, and served as president of the Historians of Netherlandish Art.
