SUMMARY:Indie Lens Pop-Up: "The Inquisitor" Film Screening & Interactive Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join the Newton Free Library and GBH for an Indie Lens Pop-Up!
This event will feature a screening of the Independent Lens documentary The
Inquisitor\, followed by an interactive discussion led by facilitators from
Families Organizing for Racial Justice (FORJ).\n\n \n\nExplore the life and
legacy of Barbara Jordan in The Inquisitor. Jordan was a groundbreaking
Texas congresswoman whose sharp intellect and moral clarity transformed
U.S. politics. From Nixon’s impeachment to civil rights battles\, her
voice demanded accountability\, while she privately faced struggles few
ever knew of.\n\n\n\n \n\nFollowing the screening\, facilitators from FORJ
will lead interactive small-group discussions where everyone will have a
chance to reflect on the film\, with a focus on one of the documentary's
key themes: finding your voice.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nAbout the Film:\n\nThe
Inquisitor\n\nBy Angela Tucker (director/producer)\, Trevite Willis
(producer)\, and Moira Griffin (producer)\n\n\n\nWatch the trailer
here.\n\nLearn more about the film and filmmakers here.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
 \n\nAbout FORJ:\n\nFamilies Organizing for Racial Justice\, FORJ\, is a
coalition of families and individuals who believe change starts at home and
in our own communities. Our name derives from the verb "forge\," meaning to
create or form\, perfectly mirroring what we do: creating and forming a
movement committed to realizing lasting change in our city. We offer
antiracist programs in the schools and the community that bring people
 together\, raise awareness\, educate\, and provide skill-building trainings
for youth and adults. We share resources\, source programming\, and
collaborate with like-minded organizations to offer dynamic
 partnerships.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nAbout Indie Lens Pop-Up:\n\nFor more than
20 years\, the award-winning Indie Lens Pop-Up program has partnered with
local organizations across the country to bring people together for film
screenings and community-driven conversations. Inspired by the
documentaries featured on PBS’s Independent Lens\, Indie Lens Pop-Up is a
space for sharing ideas and making connections that shape our understanding
of ourselves and the world around us. Since its inception in 2005\, nearly
half a million participants have come together at Indie Lens Pop-Up events
to discuss issues that impact local communities. Learn more at
 pbs.org/indielenspopup.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nThe film runs approximately
 60 minutes\, followed by a 45-minute discussion.\n\nThis program was
originally planned for late February but had to be rescheduled due to the
blizzard. We recognize that the screening is now taking place at sundown
during Ramadan. If you have been fasting during the day\, you are welcome
to have something to eat or drink in the auditorium when it is time to
break the fast. There is also space to eat in the Community Room right next
 to the auditorium.
