The Sweet Spot: Oral Feedback that Prompts Changes (and Smiles)! (ELL Tutor Event)

What are the best ways to correct learners' mistakes? How can we give our students the corrections they desire in the midst of a lesson, without disrupting the flow of conversation? We will discuss various methods of error correction, including a strategy that provide lighthearted but effective opportunities for students to quickly correct themselves and solidify their language skills. The last 15 minutes will be a Q&A with the presenter.

William C. Cole-French, Ed.M., is an Instructor of ESL within the School of Arts & Sciences of Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS). In this role, he works extensively with international students, immigrants, and first-generation college students to ensure their success during their studies. Specifically, he equips first-year and second-year students to develop fundamental oral communication skills for both academic and professional courses. He has been teaching at MCPHS since 2016. He returned to the United States in late 2013 after living and working in Vietnam for nearly 10 years. He graduated from Boston University with a Master’s of Education in TESOL in 2004.
