Newton Free Library 150th Anniversary Celebration

This November is the 150th anniversary of the vote to transfer the Library to the City of Newton, so we're throwing an anniversary party! Throughout the day, there will be activities for adults and kids of all ages. We hope you'll celebrate with us!

Stop by anytime between 10am-4pm for these activities
  • Scavenger hunt - start at the main circulation desk
  • Handouts of book recommendations, featuring bestsellers from 1875 to today - at the main circulation desk
  • Custom crossword puzzles - at the main circulation desk
  • Craft activity: decorate a card for the Library - Community Room, Room A, & Room B
  • Share your story: write down a favorite Library memory, beloved book, and more - in the atrium
  • Display of the entries in our custom library card design contest - in the main lobby
  • Custom puzzle of the Library - at the 2nd floor community puzzle table

The Library Boogie with Tom Knight and His Musical Puppets
The Library Boogie is a lively musical puppet show by Tom Knight that celebrates books, stories, and the joy of reading. With catchy songs, colorful puppets, and plenty of audience participation, this family-friendly program brings the magic of the library to life for children and adults alike. For children and their caregivers, recommended for ages 3 and up.

150th Anniversary Concert with Elaine Woo & Friends
Join us for remarks from the Library Director and a celebratory concert. Newton artists Elaine Woo (vocals), Stephen Tassone (guitar), and Suzanne Davis (piano) will present a selection of jazz favorites. For adults and kids of all ages.
