Haiku Newton Celebratory Reading
Event box

Enjoy an evening of poetry with the Haiku Newton project. Haiku have delighted and inspired readers for centuries. Here in Newton, the Haiku Newton project brings haiku on lawn-style signs to various parts of the city from National Poetry Month in April through July.
The co-directors of Haiku Newton – poets Grey Held, Elizabeth Lund, and Greg Fulchino – selected 30 winning poems from a pool of 232 submissions. At this celebratory reading, they will begin by talking about the project, now in its fourth year, and the evolution of haiku. This will be followed by a reading of the winning poems – either by the poets themselves, or if they cannot attend, by one of the hosts. In addition, the poets may choose to share their creative process and participate in a group discussion with those in attendance.
This event is open to anyone with an interest in poetry and anyone who wants to start exploring poetry – no prior knowledge required. Come a little early or stay a little late and you can view the 30 poems installed on the Library's front lawn. The lawn signs featuring the winning haiku will be on view at the Library through the reading. They will then move to a new location in the city.
