Opening Reception for S.K. Sahni

Opening reception for S.K. Sahni. Refreshments will be served.

S.K. Sahni has entitled his exhibit "Lines in Space." In describing the exhibit, S.K. provides the following in his own words: "A straight line is pure, unsentimental and unconditional of any subjective feeling, but when it is placed in conjunction with other lines, it may evoke in us different feelings, moods and sensibilities. I create my works without any preconceived notion, sketch or idea. The image is being built directly on the canvas or paper gradually and painstakingly. I do not intend to represent any man-made or nature-made object in my works. My emphasis is to build a unique abstract image. I started working with straight lines almost forty years ago, and during this period it has gone through numerous changes. I have tried to manipulate it as much as possible and to find its various applications and possibilities in my works. My works are based on concepts or principles which are self-governed by the individual composition. A form thus realized is like realization of truth free from any preconceived thoughts and ideas."

Artist-provided biography: I, S.K.Sahni, was born in 1937. I studied painting for four years in art school and later on post-graduated in painting. I am a full time painter. I have deep interest in the creative manipulation of the straight line. For me, straight lines are not lifeless strokes but are the very essence of my creative endeavors, through which I wish to build an image which is unique and beyond reality. I organized 20-25 solo exhibitions and have participated in more than 50 group shows. A few major shows are "Lines of Vision" in 2001, "Linear Explorations" in 2007, "Symphony of Straight Lines" in 2009 and "Space A to Z" in 2013. A Retrospective Exhibition of my works (1962-2014) was held in 2016. I was also shown at India Art Fair in 2018. My works have also been shown internationally including at the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art, Dallas, TX in 2018. I am quite active in Boston. As a member of Weymouth Art Association and Quincy Arts Association, I participate in their exhibitions regularly.
