Astronomy Night for Adults: Observing Jupiter and Saturn

Here be giants! Join astronomer Alex Trunnell for an evening of learning and stargazing as we explore our solar system's gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn. First, Alex will teach about these majestic planets: how they were formed, why they are so different from Earth, and how we study them. We will also use cutting edge computer software to explore how these planets seem to travel across the night sky throughout the year. After dark, we will look at Jupiter and Saturn for ourselves through a 6" telescope, weather permitting.

Alex Trunnell is an astronomer and educator based in Somerville. Alex has done Planetary Science research with Vassar College, MIT, and the Lowell Observatory, and her passion is bringing this research to the public through astronomy outreach. She is especially interested in exoplanets and life in the universe, and she is an amateur astrophotographer.
